Find Federal Bureau of Prisons Releases

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons system, use the national federal locator rather than a De Baca County jail source. Federal imprisonment is a separate custody channel. A BOP result can preserve a released status and date after a person leaves federal prison, but that event does not end every federal obligation or rule out another custodian. No BOP facility has been verified in De Baca County. The person’s register number, exact identity, release date, and displayed location provide the sound starting point for tracing a federal release connected to the county.

Federal BOP Releases Near De Baca

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is a national prison system for people committed in federal cases. It is not the De Baca County Detention Center, the county sheriff, or the New Mexico Corrections Department. No federal prison was verified in De Baca County as checked July 29, 2026. A federal defendant may have a case connected to the county yet be confined elsewhere in the country.

The BOP locator is useful because it retains many released records. It generally covers federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to the present and people released after 1982. Older federal custody may require archival research. A De Baca County arrest or state charge will not create a BOP record unless federal jurisdiction and BOP commitment are actually involved.

A displayed past date with “Released” or no BOP location supports exit from BOP custody. It does not prove that the person returned to De Baca County, completed federal supervised release, or avoided state, local, or immigration custody. The result answers one bounded question: whether the named person remains in BOP prison custody.

BOP custody
Federal prison confinement managed by the Bureau of Prisons.
Register number
The stable federal identifier used to distinguish people with similar names.
Released
Departure from BOP custody, not necessarily the end of all legal status.
Supervised release
A separate federal community status that can follow prison.

Search Federal BOP Release Records

Open the official BOP Inmate Locator. An identification-number search is strongest. The interface accepts a BOP register number, FBI number, INS number, or DCDC number. A name search allows an exact name with optional age, race, and sex filters. Those filters help control false matches, but the register number should govern when it is known.

  1. Choose an identification-number search when a federal number is available. Enter it exactly and confirm the number type.
  2. Otherwise search the full name. Add age, race, or sex only as needed to separate plausible matches.
  3. Compare the name, register number, age, race, and sex before selecting a result.
  4. Read the location and release date together. A past date with Released or no BOP location indicates exit from BOP custody.
  5. If the date is in the future, treat it as projected and confirm changes with the institution or federal case source.

The federal fields are distinct from a De Baca booking number or NMCD number, so identifiers should never be carried across systems without verification.

The broader De Baca County released inmate search explains when to stay with local, state, federal, or immigration custody records.

Note: The BOP database updates daily, but a result should still be time-stamped when a current location or projected date matters.

Federal Release Result Fields

A BOP result provides a compact identity and custody record. Each field has a limited purpose. The release date can be historical or future. The location can name a current facility or indicate that no BOP location remains. Neither field states whether another authority took custody or whether federal supervision continues.

This retained federal record can outlast a short online jail view, but it remains proof of BOP status only.

No Federal BOP Result

A blank search cannot be translated into release. It may mean the case was not federal, the record predates the locator’s main 1982 coverage, the name or number differs, or another federal custodian was involved. Search spelling variants with care, then compare the federal case docket and any known register number. The National Archives route may be needed for older records.

Namesake risk remains real in a small county. Compare middle name, age, sex, offense, federal case, and number. Aliases can create the reverse problem, where one person appears under several names. Do not merge two records merely because dates or allegations resemble each other. A stable identifier should control.

A future BOP date can also change. Sentence computation, credits, court action, and other legal events may alter it. Describe the date as projected until the BOP record shows a completed release.

USMS Custody and De Baca

The United States Marshals Service can hold federal pretrial prisoners and place them in contract facilities, but it does not provide a public detainee locator. Its prisoner guidance also restricts photographs and arrival or departure details. A missing BOP record is therefore not proof that a federal defendant is free. The person may be in pretrial USMS custody and not yet committed to BOP.

Use the federal court docket to understand a pretrial case. After a sentence commits the person to BOP, the national locator becomes the main public prison-status route. Do not describe a county directory, unofficial jail page, or absent BOP match as a USMS release record.

A De Baca County jail movement could show a handoff to a federal authority. That local departure is a transfer, not community release. The custody chain needs both the local movement record and the federal case or agency record.

Note: USMS and BOP are separate stages, so the correct public source depends on whether federal prison commitment has occurred.

After Federal BOP Release

Federal prison release can lead to federal supervised release, another jurisdiction, immigration custody, or return to the community. The BOP locator does not establish which destination applies. Review the federal judgment and docket for the term of supervised release and later court action. If the person entered ICE custody, use ICE’s locator within its own limits.

A state or county warrant can also produce a transfer. The BOP result will still accurately show exit from BOP, but it cannot prove freedom from all custody. For a person expected in De Baca County, a local address or family report is not a substitute for the receiving authority’s record.

Release from BOP and completion of supervised release are separate milestones, just as release from an NMCD prison and state discharge are separate. Use precise wording: “released from BOP custody on the displayed date” is supported. “Finished the federal sentence with no supervision” requires more evidence.

Federal BOP Records Access

The locator is the first release record, but a court docket or agency record may be needed when the destination, sentence, or date calculation matters. Save the register number, exact display text, and date checked. A screenshot without source and time can become misleading after an update.

Ask for the narrow record needed rather than a broad personal file. The release date, place of confinement, sentence judgment, or movement between named custodians can answer distinct questions. Medical, security, and other protected material is not needed for ordinary custody verification.

Reconcile federal dates by milestone. The judgment states the sentence imposed. A future locator date is BOP’s current projection. A later locator result can show the completed BOP release date. The federal docket may identify a separate supervised-release term, and another agency record may show a transfer. When two dates differ, preserve both labels and source dates instead of choosing one without explanation. This approach is especially important when a De Baca County connection appears only in the underlying case while confinement and release occur elsewhere.

For older cases, the main locator coverage creates a real limit. A person confined or released before the post-1982 range may require National Archives material and the historical federal docket. Do not substitute an unofficial directory for the absent BOP result. The goal is to identify the agency record that actually documents federal custody and departure.
